About the Program: The Fundamental Principles of Shake It

Our fat mass is under a homeostatic mechanism described as the ‘body weight set-point’ theory of obesity. The body will either increase appetite or reduce energy expenditure in order to maintain this set-point, making it almost impossible for patients to adhere to a weight loss program. There are key factors involved in regulating central weight control, enabling the set point to lower. The Shake It program has been designed to allow patients to comfortably create a caloric deficit without the body defending its weight; helping to reduce cravings and improving weight loss outcomes.

The Shake It Program includes the following recommendations to achieve successful weight loss by incorporating strategies to regulate the body weight set point and patient satiety.

The body weight set-point theory suggests that our fat mass is regulated by mechanisms that maintain a certain weight, making sustained weight loss difficult. The Shake It Program is designed to help patients create a caloric deficit without triggering the body’s defense mechanisms, reducing cravings, and improving weight loss outcomes.

Two Wholefood Meals Plus Snacks: 
The program emphasises a balanced diet that minimises hyperpalatable foods—those high in fats, processed carbs, and salt—which can elevate the body weight set-point. You can choose between two eating plans:

  • Ketogenic Plan: Low in carbs (20%) and high in fat (50%).

  • Low-Fat Plan: Low in fat (20%) and high in carbs (50%).

Both plans prioritise protein, fibre, and vegetables to promote satiety and nutrient balance.

 

Adequate Protein Intake:
Protein is incorporated into every meal, including a protein-rich meal substitute like a shake or bar. Protein supports satiety, thermogenesis, and muscle mass maintenance, aiding in sustained weight loss. Shake It offers various protein sources to suit different preferences.

Lifestyle Factors:
